Donald, the Beretta APX is the "newer" model and has got very consistent good reviews. The APX would get the nod for me as it is a lighter pistol than the 92 and slightly more ergonomically designed. The 92 is a proven platform and either would serve you well. The APX will give an edge in capacity and be faster handling compared to the 92.

Hi Don, The 92FS is great for beginners. It's been around forever and is still one of my favorite firearms I own.
