  • With 3 possible points of focus when shooting (rear sight, front sight, and target), which should be the point of focus when ready to shoot? I have heard 2 opinions. One says focus on the front sight, while another says focus on the target. What do you all say?

  • If you focus on the front sight you will shoot high under stress. I guarantee it. When I run classes that's usually the first thing we address because the "experts" have decided that's how to go. We teach a target focus and a "Ghost" sight picture for any quick shooting out to 12 yards. Get your stance, focus on a spot on the target, and as you bring the gun to your eye pick up both sights in your peripheral vision and align them as they come to the target and immediately shoot when they hit the spot. Longer range will require you to focus more on the sights but you need to use both sights to get proper alignment and hit anything. Equal light bars on each side of the front sight and the top even with the top of the back sight.

  • FRONT SIGHT ….PERIOD. Your rear sight is just something to look through to see your front sight. If you focus on the target you won't hit it ….PERIOD.

  • Front sight for target shooting, front and rear for bullseye shooting. It also depends on the gun, every manufacturer has their own standard sight heights.

  • Jim, the Front Sight will be most important in a self defense senario which more than likely will be very short distances. As distances increase and more than self defense accuracy is desired then you add the other elements including rear/front/target in the sight line up.

  • it depends on the type shooting you are doing in the instinct type (which can be very good in close combat) you focus on the target but for best accuracy you focus on the front sight the reare and the target will be slightly blury
