  • It has a stainless steel heat shield in the fore end but if you shoot a couple of magazines through it you need gloves.

  • this rifle definitely has a "Heat Shield" in the hand guard (which is pretty standard on AR's). It sports a carbine length heat shielded hand guard. - It has a 16" lightweight barrel with an A2 front sight and a Mako rear sight. Forged 7075 T6 aluminum receivers include an A3 flattop upper and a precision machined lower with a commercial buffer tube. It sports a carbine length heat shielded handguard and a 6 position collapsible stock. The BCG is phosphate coated, chrome lined and built to last.

  • Hi Timothy, No unfortunately it doesn't but, the "Pencil" profile is simply a thinner "Sport" Barrel. It will usually be slightly less accurate due to increased barrel harmonics. Thinner barrels also heat up quicker which would cause point of impact to change when heated. I would not worry too much about this as we Civilians don't usually shoot sustained fire very often. The basic "Military" issue barrel is heavier and is slightly more accurate with longer heat up intervals.
