This does have an octagon barrel. So what is the difference between this one and the 534228137 besides the price?

Yes Ben, this rifle has a 24" Full Octagon Barrel. This model has a "Polished Blued Receiver and Barrel Finish " and the 534228173 has a "Color Case Hardened Receiver and Blued Barrel". This is the sole difference.
