Daryl, I own both a 7.5" and 10.5" barrel AR Pistol. Whichever one fits your immediate need is the one to get as uppers are fairly inexpensive right now and for $200 to $300 you could have both. Home protection I prefer the shorter barrel for maneuverability. For target and plinking I use the 10.5 as the extra 125 to 150 or so FPS extends the range quite a bit.
