  • Bought a new S&W M&P 40S&W VTAC and went to clean it and the guide rod sticks out once I move the level down to unlock the slide from the frame. I can get it to go back in and come part by moving the slide with a little force, bought a new recoil assembly thinking that may fix the problem (bent rod) but nope same thing? Is there a problem with this gun or does it need worn in some?

  • If its what I think it is, its not a problem at all and is quite normal. As long as the gun still fires and functions normally, you're okay. It only sits it the groove for reassembly, then after the slides installed, it jumps out of the groove. The slide holds it where it needs to be and all is normal. If this is what's happening to you anyway. Wish I could see it.

  • You've just got to play with it to seat properly. It goes in the groove closest to the barrel.
