  • It is very hard to find a 270. The 243 seem available. I shoot smaller game.. small deer in Florida and boars as well.. Besides the 308.. is 243 in the running or stay away. I am not so knowledgeable with the 308, can you buy lighter ammo for smaller game? and can you find lighter ammo.. Buds????

  • Ben, the 243 will be fine for your stated hunting needs. The .243 is actually based on a necked down 308 case and there is no issues with hunting deer or boar with it. Your primary focus will be on using the right "Bullet" for the job at hand than a lack of power in the .243.

  • Hi ben - OK ... into the 'opinion arena' we go ... LOL I've shot many whitetail deer with my 243, and it always produced great results. It's fast, flat shooting, and really generates some shock power. I'm sure it would work equally well on pigs .. though most my pig hunting has been with a 300 BO. I wouldn't hesitate to take my 243 pig hunting. Here's a video of pig hunting with a .243 in Florida. youtube.com/watch?v=uxKBUADfzys That said .. it's hard to beat a .308 for all-round versatility. You can get light loads for coyotes, etc, or heavier loads for larger game. (125 gr - 185 gr). It's available. But I'm sure the .243 would fill your needs nicely. And it is usually available.
