Lonnie - as of January 1, 2019, Iowa began requiring online retailers to collect Iowa state sales tax on merchandise sold and shipped to Iowa residents. So it isn't Buds policy that determines this - it is each individual state's laws that determine this. But yes, Iowa is now on the 'list' to collect sales tax on internet sales. Sorry for all the confusion my friend. Just glad we finally got to the bottom of it.
OK Michael so you're saying Buds would charge for some states, and not for others, depending on each state's laws? That would explain why I didn't pay any sales tax on my order of a few days ago. I have heard of FFLs who collected sales tax on the entire amount of the purchase though .. not just the transfer fee. Guess that's a state-by-state thing too. But I knew for certain buds did not charge me taxes on my last order, or ever. Thanks Michael for clearing that up. Lonnie, I apologize for the bad information
Lonnie, I live in WI and I get State/County sales tax added to all my BUDs purchases. Started last year WI passed a law about applying state taxes to internet purchases. Buy something you'll find out about Iowa. As far as Rick's answer then you pay state taxes on your FFL fees not cost of merchandise
James G - would you be so kind as to link me to that information so both Lonnie and I can read it? I was not aware of that and I don't want to be giving out bad information. thank you.
Lonnie, as of Sept, 2018 Buds now collects state taxes for your state. You can see the actual amount by placing item in your cart and selecting "Check Out".
Buds charges state tax for items sold to residents of Kentucky. It would be up to your FFL to collect Iowa tax, if he/she even does so - some do, some don't.

Yes they do buds will charge sales taxes based on where you live here is why. this change came about "On June 21, 2018, the United States Supreme Court fundamentally changed the rules for collection of sales tax by Internet-based retailers. In its decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair Inc., the Court effectively stated that individual states can require online sellers to collect state sales tax on their sales" nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/50-state-guide-internet-sales-tax-laws.html
