Martin, no. Red dot calibration is very easy. I usually start with co-witnessing the dot to my sights and doing the fine tuning afterwards. How to Zero a Red Dot (Easy Beginners Guide) : youtube.com/watch?v=O79RkDj7yu8

Mossberg & Sons 715P Tactical .22 LR Pistol w/ Red Dot
Martin - the 'secret' is to start close to the target. No more than 25 yards to start with. IF you are 100% confident your open sights are zeroed, then you can set the red dot to co-witness the sights, but if the sights aren't already zeroed then don't bother with that step. Fire two or three rounds, holding the red dot on the bullseye. Calculate the distance of your group from the bullseye and adjust your red dot accordingly. Fire another 2-3 shot group at the bullseye, and re-adjust if necessary. You'll be hitting the bullseye in two or three groups, and can then increase your distance, and make the 'fine tuning' adjustments, and you'll soon be on target at the distance you want to use for your 'zero'.
