You might want to try the Marlin 336SS in 30-30, or almost any of the current 336's will do. This rifle (series) is easy to find, the ammo is cheap, and it has modest recoil. Also, you can find used ones in great condition for as low as $300 (maybe less), or buy a new one for around $500 to $600. They are very reliable and will do the job with proper shot placement.

Ill keep it simple. Get a Ruger American in 243. or 308. I got my girlfriend one and shes only 5 foot and she loves it. Its super easy for her to shoot and she shoots it very well. The 243 has less recoil than the 308 and will do the job just fine. However the 308 has more knock down power over the 243 and with the 308 you will never not be able to find ammo for it. Some models of the Ruger American ship with a scope included and that just one less thing to worry about. You can pick up a Ruger American pretty much anywhere for around $400. I hope this helped.

Hi there the best way for you to find the best rifle for you is to tell you to look at local gun shops and hold several firearms and see which one feel right to you. One rifle may be to heavy for you and one may have a longer stock than you want excedera. The 308 is a great deer hunting round. After you are confident on the caliber you want many rifle models come In many calibers. Remember the best rifle for you is one that you can use enjoy and hunt with safely. Mossberg MVP Predator is a very nice rifle. Chambered in .308, perfect for deer hunting. Also accepts AR mags and 7.62 ammo....makes magazine capacity options a big plus. Even better.....absolutely will not break the bank. I bought one for myself, wife stole it, and she loves it. I bought a Ruger Scout to replace it thinking I would like it better.....Nope. A short action rifle would be a good choice like a 243 or 308. A youth style stock would also be a good fit since you have a small stature. This combination of a short action and a youth stock would make for a nice and light weight deer hunting setup. A .243 would have good manageable recoil for a small frame shooter. This is my experience, I harvested my first deer when i was 12 with a youth model .243, the gun was light enough for me to carry comfortably to the stand and had just a little recoil that allowed me to make a nice controllable shot without me having to worry about excess recoil. Now shot placement is key as it is with every caliber. A 308 is still a short action but offers more knockdown power compared to the 243, however; a 308 offers a little more recoil. If you feel comfortable with little more recoil then a 308 is a great option also. When it comes to selecting the brand of rifle you want go with a brand you know or someone recommends, Ruger's american series rifle offers a budget friendly youth rifle that wont break the bank and will be very reliable. don't overlook a henry lever action rifle. the quality is excellent, they have several calibers to chose from, all made in america. great rifles right out of the box and excellent support from all the people at henry. after getting my .45-70 from them, the president of the company sent me a e-mail thanking me for my review, and later got another e-mail telling me i would get some free stuff for my time. so i know i thought the same thing... right may be a sticker or something right. nope...got a hat, a coffee mug, key chain and very nice hand written note thanking me. that sold me on the company. with that kind of support they can get you what you want for any hunting or just fun shooting needs you might have. hope this helps..

Issues with a 243 is actual knock down power....
Although the recoil might be less you want to make sure you actually don't cause an animal to suffer.
Anything in a 7MM Mag is a great choice if you are looking for something shorter look for a 30/30 in lever action and scope it in..... Either way good luck in your choice

Ruger scout rifle it's shorter and easy the handle. Get it in a few calibers. Vert accurate.

Check out the AR-15 300 AAC Blackout. I have shoot a few deer with mine using a 120gn TTAX Bullet and its low recoil.

Hey Annie, two of the girls on our team have the Savage Axis II in 243, this version is packaged with a scope. It's a great value for the money and Savage rifles have built a reputation for accuracy. I can attest to that, I bought one of these myself to get into hunting inexpensively and it's been a great rifle. Not too heavy, not much recoil and again, very accurate - a value priced complete package.
