BudsGunShop.com - Washington State Taxes On Pistols?
-
-
I just recently purchased a pistol with an extra magazine. I was invoiced online at $494.00. I was taxed on the magazine but not the gun. When I went to my FFL he informed me when the paperwork is done the tax was $220.00 dollars plus his charge as an FFL. Just curious if Washington State has some special taxes on firearms? I understand that my FFL has to collect the Taxes on the pistol but it seems a little steep. Is that the norm?

Jeffrey, no, something is amiss Sir. Washington State's sales tax rate is 6.5%. I would contact Buds via live chat to check on this. That charge is nearly half the cost of the pistol which makes no sense.
