  • I have a 9mm and an LCP .380. I am always looking for the best defensive ammo I can get. And because I own a 9mm, I'm well aware of what +p means. But I keep reading that no .380 is safe or okay to use +p ammo. So why then does .380+p ammo exist? Its gotta work in something, right???

  • I wouldn't officially advise shooting +p but I've done it in my full size 9mm and the are signs that you can look for if pressures are getting too close such as primer flattening etc

  • My SIG 238 handles any ammo well. It has been durable enough to withstand lots of practice with no problems unlike some of the lighter duty 380's. Some of my friends own the Rugers and they are a good value and accurate but do not stand up well to extended use.

  • I have 3 different 380's - all i use as far defense rounds is hollow points - and to be honest - not sure why you would even need the +p at all as most articles tell you they do more harm to your gun/barrel - itself

  • It's kind of a shoot at your own risk situation. There are no established standards for .380 +p so any loading of this round is a wildcard. It may be perfectly safe, it may not. Buffalo Bore claims their +p load is safe for the lcp but again, no recognized standard. If you're looking for a good self defense .380 round, try the xtreme penetrator. It should work in your lcp.
