BudsGunShop.com - Ejecting problems

Ruger American Rimfire 22LR. It doesn't eject the brass after shooting. I have to drop the mag to remove the brass from the chamber. Ejects 1or 2 of 10 rounds mag.

I have this same rifle and had the same problem. All of the answers above could possibly help. I cleaned, called Ruger and changed to different ammo. It came down to a combination of two. The ammo and the needed "Break In" of the magazine. Try a good name brand ammo with smallest grain you can find (less bullet = more power for shell to completely push back action and for longer) then 50 to 100 rounds through mag. This worked for my rifle.
Sounds like it needs a good cleaning. If it's a new rifle contact Tigers excellent customer service. If your good with your hands YouTube surely has a good visual field strip video on it. Clean her up and make sure everything is ok. Extractor and ejector. If your running a suppressor they will definitely increase fouling and carbon buildup in rimfires. Make sure you run it without the can sometimes to help cleanup carbon.
I have seen where a good cleaning can resolve this issue and i have seen where a simple upgrade in extractors from factory cures this problem. Just clean the bolt and components and while doing so, inspect the extractor(s) for missing hook or claw. Most rimfire ammo is dirty stuff and spring cleanings will for sure help.
First, the answers suggesting thorough cleaning are spot on. Do that first. If that doesn’t fix the problem there are two potential issues to look at. Extraction; there is an extraction claw on the bolt that grabs the rim of the cartridge to pull it out of the chamber. If the claw is worn or it’s spring is weak it may be the problem and is easily and inexpensively replace. Second, Ejection; there is a stop on the opposite side of the receiver from the extraction claw that the back of the cartridge hits to flip it out the ejection port. It also may be dirty or worn. Many of these on rimfires are simple leaf spring parts that are also easily and inexpensively replaced. If you’re modestly handy you could do it yourself. Otherwise check with a small gun shop where the owner still runs it for assistance. These fellows have seen it before and can usually get you functioning quickly.
They can have ED (Erectile Dysfunction) or Premature Function better let the Ruger doctors sort it.
Sir, I have that rifle. In my experience, dirty or not I will have that problem with certain brand rounds. Try several different rounds as well as grain count for accuracy. Hope that helps you. If you have done that your ejector spring may be stuck or dirty. Spraying an all in one cleaner and lube in there would help then.
Is everything clean? Have you tried a different magazine? Try those and see what happens.
A couple of potential issues. First, this may be obvious but have you thoroughly cleaned the gun including the inside of the receiver? Second, how many rounds have been through the magazine? Possible issue of taking apart and cleaning internal parts of the magazine.

Pull your bolt out (American is a bolt action firearm; 10/22 is semi auto) and clean the bolt face and extractor areas with a good solvent and LIGHTLY oil. Too much lub will attract the gunk that most rimfire ammo produces. While the bolt is out thoroughly clean the chamber and barrel appropriately. I have found that some brands of 22 LR ammo do not have uniformly shaped rims or rims that are what I would call 'too fat' for the extractor to grab onto. Some ammo is definitely more dirty than others and requires more cleaning. What I have seem as the cleanest is CCI ammo, but I shoot a lot of brands and really do not worry about the smokey stuff; just clean more often or spend the $ on CCI. If the firearm does have an issue that you can not correct by proper cleaning, Ruger's CS will take care of it . Just be nice when you call, their CS people are beyond great.
