If a shotgun (mossberg 12ga shockwave) has a 3” chamber, will it fire a 3” shell? I apologize upfront for my naivety.

Yes, any shells 3'' or smaller will cycle just fine. Though the recoil on the larger shells will be higher and with a short pistol grip only you may want to stick with 2 3/4 shells maybe try some minis if you can find them
