Is it possible to put 10/22 military type sights on a Ruger American 22 bolt action? If not, then can anyone recommend a compatible adjustable rear sight, preferably a peep sight?

Jeremy, this should not be a problem for a good gunsmith. You could also mount a Picatinny Rail if not already to use any of the hundreds of AR style rear sights or peep sight.
