  • I purchased the S&W M&P40 SHIELD Model #: 10034 40 Cal. 3.1" Barrel in July & today, for the very 1st time - had a chance to shoot it. Almost immediately the rounds were jamming/not loading into the chamber correctly and basically the gun is clunky - not smooth. The gun right out of the box has lots of oil & the main contact areas. So, I racked it several times and seemed to help to get it to work better. Question: is it normal for a new gun to 'feel' rough and misfeed rounds?

  • Anton, no Sir it is not normal for a new pistol to be that rough. It may be that 1 in a thousand that slips through quality control. I would put 50 rounds through it, clean and lube and repeat for 200 rounds total. Sharp edges, burrs etc should be smoothed out by then and then check for function/reliability. If it works then fine and if not much better, call S&W for service at 1-800-331-0852 Mon-Fri 8:00AM-5:00PM Eastern Time.

  • all "new " guns should be stripped cleaned and properly oiled to get rid of the preservative that they ship with. I would also try a different brand of ammo . If you still have problems Contact S&W so thy can fix the problem By Telephone:
