Steven, yes Sir it can. The only issue is that steel is not as pliable as brass and therefore will not seal as well when fired. This will cause more soot and powder residue blow-by and will dirty up the firearm quicker. Just remember to clean more frequently when shooting steel cased ammo and you will have no issues. Cheers and stay safe!
Hi,
Steel cased (Russian) ammo works fine on AK and most other guns (AR included). Most modern firearms will safely and reliably run steel case ammo. However, you should be mindful and do some research regarding the ammo reliability in your specific firearms. For example, my PSA AR-15 works great with steel-cased ammo, but it would not cycle at all in my friends Daniel Defense AR-15. Same goes for many pistols out there. Steel case ammo is also dirtier and sometime slightly underpowered which means it can be unreliable in a certain type of firearms. I would look up online if your specific firearm work well with steel case ammo. Cheers.
yes the steel will work just fine. it will require more frequent cleaning and some ranges may not allow it so check with the range you shoot at before making a big order
Steel case ammo is fine especially in an AK-47 AK's are designed to run steel case. If your shooting 7.62×39 out of a spam can be aware alot this contains corrosive primers so I'd clean the rifle every 500-,1000 rounds, if its not spam can ammo (like wolf, tula, or red army etc.) Your probably good to not have to clean it for 2,000+ rounds. For all things AK check out Robski on AK ou operators youtube channel

Hes the man when it comes to all things ak
You can run steel case in other calibers as well, you grouping won't be quite as tight and steel runs a little dirtier but most modern calibers in most modern firearms will safely and reliably run steel case ammo, but id clean your gun every 1,000 or so rounds running steel cased in 9mm, 40sw, 45acp, or 223/556.
