what is the spring assist? How does it work?
Lenny, it is two reverse springs (smaller springs on the left and right of the pump handle that exert pressure to keep the at rest position of the pump fore-end in the forward position. You pump towards you, it assists for an easier/faster return in preparation for the next pump action you make. Cheers and stay safe!

There's constant forward spring tension on the pump, and when pulled to the rear and released, the pump flies forward and completes the action. Its meant to aid speed in cycling of the action, I've never shot a pump shotgun with this feature but I've seen on the high road forums those that have this feature like it.
