  • S&w invented this round. Still a standard 40. Just like. 223 are technically called .223 Remington, even though Remington is not the only maker of a platform firing this round. Good luck

  • Juan, it is the name of the ammunition which is the .40S&W or 40 Smith and Wesson and is the caliber this and any model firearm is chambered for and shoots. Example : Glock, Sig Sauer, Ruger, Beretta etc, that are chambered in .40S&W will all shoot this caliber. Cheers and stay safe!

  • The S&W in the 40 just states who developed the ammo. just like 30-06 springfield or .357 Remington magnum. Many people just call it 40 cal now

  • 40 S&W was created by Winchester and Smith and Wesson to replace 9mm after police were disappointed in 9mms performance after a shootout in Miami Florida. Anyways there's tons of non-S&W firearms that shoot 40 S&W, it's just named after the inventors and doesn't have anything to do with Wich brand firearm its in. You also have several other calibers like 500 S&W. Hope this helps.
