Is the 38 superauto ammo the same as 38 special?

No they are not the same and can not be used in the same gun the 38 super auto is a rimless case (like 9mm) for use in semi auto pistols chambered in 38 super The 38 special is a rimed case for use in revolvers.

No, they're completely different. 38 special cannot be used in 38 super pistols and Vice versa. Sorry but hope this helps.
