  • I just received my savage axis 2 precision and realized the barrel will move slightly up and down as if it wasn't tight. I checked the two bolts that hold the barrel and they seem tight, but is this just part of it being a floating barrel?

  • Andrew, yes Sir it is a direct result of being a free floated barrel. It also factors into barrel harmonics that also influence accuracy as well. Cheers and stay safe!

  • Yea, that's just part of any free floating Barrel. I have a Savage 10 ba stealth and the barrel on that wiggles a little but I get great accuracy out of it as I do with any of my free floating barreled rifles. The wiggle is a little concerning when you first notice it but apparently having room to move and flex like that's what makes free floating barrels so accurate. So don't worry, it's normal. Hope this helps.
