  • Tony, the M&P shield is the compact version of the M&P9. The shield uses a single stack 7 round magazine and the barrels longer, the M&P9 uses a double stack 17 round magazine with a longer barrel. Thats the main difference is size. If you want something small for concealed carry I would go with the shield. For target practice or home defense I would go with the larger M&P9. Hope this helps.
