Well you've got your answers below. I was personally unaware of such a law due to the melting point of the metal used to manufacture a firearm.
Thank you for your question!!
Donald, Hi-Point pistols are prohibited due to melting point laws. ***Prohibited: Any handgun having a barrel, slide, frame or receiver that has a die casting of zinc alloy or any other non-homogenous metal, which will melt or deform at a temperature of 800
degrees F or less. ***Prohibited: Cobra, Phoenix Arms, Heritage Arms, Walther rimfire pistols, GSG rimfire pistols,
Hi-Point pistols and Jimenez Arms. Details here >>> budsgunshop.com/feeds/state_reg/illinois_restrictions.pdf
Donald, unfortunately because of the type of metal used in Hipoints they're not legal in Illinois. The slide, barrel frame can't be made of metal that melts under 800 degrees fahrenheit Wich highpoints use. Sorry but hope this helps.

Donald, unfortunately no Sir due to Illinois Melting Point laws. These pistols have major components made of “pot metal”, also known as Zamak, or white metal which is a zinc alloy that has a low melting point. These guns are not available for sale in Illinois and cannot be transferred to residents of Illinois through a FFL transfer or a returning repair.F
