You can only pickup a handgun in the state for which you are registered. You could pickup an out of state long gun only. The transfer form 4473 must match your state issued ID's including current address. An out of state FFL could get in serious trouble if not lose their license or be fined.

If you live in KY and want to pick up a gun in Tenn. you can (legally) do it as long as it is a long gun. Handguns must be received from a FFl holder in the state you reside in.
