Hi Luther and welcome. It is a Picatinny Rail for adding an Optic such as a Red Dot or Scope. Cheers and stay safe! You can add a laser or light with an offset mount to keep your sights clear : budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/711008637/offset+tactical+flashlight+mount
