  • not recoil slip on pads: tactical shotgun stocks that are mechanical and REPLACE THE ORIGINAL STOCK they do not define if it has an actual mechanism to severely reduce the recoil even more than the pad/buttstock. i am on a low budget so it does not have to be actually "tactical" as long as it severely reduces that recoil effect on a 12 GA Maverick 88 and also on Mossberg 500(i own both). are those stocks interchangeable with each other?ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?

  • The Maverick 88 is a slightly handicapped, being the reason for a lower cost version of the pump action, 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun, however in appearance it is virtually identical to the 500 model. ... Most accessories are interchangeable with a Mossberg 500. Only a Vang Compensation modification and good recoil pad may help a bit, but for these You will pay more for that than for your shotgun. The Slip on Limbasver Airtech Recoil Pad is really the only thing that will help you.

  • I suggest Federal low recoil flitecontrol rounds to reduce recoil. Little trick; Hold the shotgun strong by the forestock and push it toward the target and DON'T lean into it, instead relax your shoulder a bit. When it kicks, hang on tight but let it kick and don't try to stop it with your shoulder. What will happen is it will kick straight back directly in line with the barrel and the barrel will rise up... and it won't hurt a bit... even with super heavy loads. You will also be able to get the front sight back on target and another shot off much quicker. You can practice with the bird shot then switch to the buck and slugs. Some slugs REALLY kick HARD... like "Federal HyShok"... it just depends on the load.

  • I understand now Larry. the replacement stock are more effective and some are claimed to reduce recoil by as much as 80%. The slip on "Limb Saver" can reduce recoil by 50% for a fraction the cost though. Examples for both are : youtube.com/watch?v=gIaO0leGpps --- Example 2 here : brownells.com/guntech/blackhawk-specops-recoil-reducing-adjustable-shotgun-stock/detail.htm?lid=13335
