  • David, most handguns are used at close distances, so anything less than 15 yards is good practice. You should practice at varying distance on each range trip, say 5,7,10,& 15 yds. And just for good measure, throw in the occasional 25 yd target.
Stay safe & have a great day!

  • Hi David and welcome. Most ranges suggest shooting from 3 to 15 yards. Most self-defense shootings happen at very close range. Some shoot at 25 yards for sight in of lasers, optics on handguns. Since everyone's agenda may be different, just sight in at the distance you are most comfortable with, unless of course you are Bob Lee Swagger. Cheers and stay safe!

  • since I carry and shoot for self defense I usually practice between 10-15 yards very rarely do I shoot pistols at more than 25 yards The NC canceled carry class has you shoot at 3,5 and 7 yards
