yes it will you can shoot the weaker 223 in a 5.56 barrel with no issues but you cant shoot the more powerful 5.56 in a 223 barrel

Hi Clifford, yes sir, a rifle chambered for 5.56 will fire both 5.56 and .223. You do not need to swap barrels.
