the legality of the shockwave in Illinois is unclear. The BATF has confirmed that the shockwave is a legal firearm per the gun control act (it is not a class 3 firearm ). Even though it is legal federally the shockwave may be considered as a short barreled shotgun by certain state and local laws and therefore illegal. With the mess of gun laws you have in Illinois have I would check with my local FFL as some dealers in Illinois refuse to transfer them until the Illinois state police put that they are legal in writing

Hi James, the Mossberg Shockwave is legal in the state of Illinois. The BATF does not recognize it as a "legal" shotgun, because it is not a shotgun at all. It is a 'firearm'. completely legal in your state.

The shockwave line has also been banned here in NY. Makes no sense at all!!

No it's not because, According to the GCA, if the overall length of that firearm, with the pistol grip and barrel installed, is greater than 26", then the barrel can legally be shorter than 18". In the case of the 14" barrel Mossberg 590 Shockwave, the Raptor bird's head grip gives the gun an overall length of 26.32". That makes it a firearm. Although the BATF recognizes it as a "legal" shotgun; under the Illinois Revised Code, it does not meet the requirements. NOTE: Although the federal government says it's a gun that can be purchased by qualified buyers over the age of 21, some states, like Illinois, have regulations in place banning it and other guns like it.
