is this gun legal in Massachusetts without the 30 round magazine. I know they only allow 10 magazines

No, Colt Ar-15 and copies from other companies are not compliant, as they are specifically named "assault weapons." budsgunshop.com/feeds/state_reg/massachusetts_restrictions.pdf
