Drop a loose 9 in the cylinder and you'll see it sits quite a bit lower than with the moon clip so the firing pin will barely hit it. There is no shoulder in the chamber for the front of the case to sit on just a taper to guide the bullet.

Yes. The sole purpose of the moon clip is ease of loading and ease case removal after firing. But after firing the cases will need to be pushed out of the chamber with a long enough rod of some type..
