  • Is it possible to mount a dot sight on a post 2020 Python, and if so can it be done without modifying the revolver beyond removing the rear sight? If a mount is available, who makes it, and where can I buy it?

  • Good morning to you!! Colt's Manufacturing LLC offers a steel mounting plate designed specifically for current production Pythons and Anacondas (2020 and newer models). This plate replaces the existing adjustable target rear sight and utilizes its pin and screw hole for installation. It is compatible with popular red dot optics featuring the Shield RMSc and Holosun 507K footprints. These plates retail for approximately $79.
    Aftermarket Mounts (e.g., EGW):
Companies like Evolution Gun Works (EGW) also produce red dot mounts for the post-2020 Colt Python. These mounts typically replace the rear sight and are designed to accommodate various red dot footprints like Trijicon RMR/SRO/Holosun 407C/507C, or Vortex Viper/Venom/Burris FastFire.
    Installation:
    The installation process generally involves:
Removing the existing adjustable target rear sight.
Installing the chosen mounting plate or mount in its place, utilizing the existing screw holes and pin location.
Attaching the red dot sight to the mount.
These solutions are reversible, allowing the original rear sight to be reinstalled if desired. While installation can be done by a user, it is recommended to have a qualified gunsmith perform the installation for optimal results and to ensure proper fitment.
    Where to Buy:
Colt's official mounting plates can be purchased directly from Colt's Manufacturing LLC or through authorized Colt dealers.
Aftermarket mounts like those from EGW can be found on their respective company websites.

  • King Charles Sir,
Yes, you can mount a dot sight on a post-2020 Python, often without modifying the revolver beyond removing the rear sight, using a clamp-on side or barrel mount. While specific commercial mounts are limited, some aftermarket options exist, and they can usually be purchased through major firearms retailers or custom gunsmiths.
Ruger or aftermarket companies like Weigand or Leupold sometimes produce compatible mounts, but specific options for the Python are rare.
Specialty mount makers such as Kydex or Hiviz may offer side or barrel-mounted options.
Hope this helps King Charles 🤴, please take care and stay safe 🙏

  • Hi Charles and welcome. EGW has an optimal Optics Mount that does not modify the revolver except for rear sight removal: https://egwguns.com/trijicon-rmr-sro-holosun-407c-507c-mount-for-colt-gold-cup-python-anaconda-post-2020 ----------- Cheers, stay safe and enjoy your choice of Red/Green Dot.

  • Yes, it is possible to mount a dot sight on a post-2020 Colt Python, though the method depends on the specific rear sight and the desired optic footprint. Colt's manufacturing division offers plates that replace the target rear sight, while other manufacturers like Evolution Gun Works (EGW) provide mounts that utilize the existing mounting screws, with some models requiring the rear sight to be removed.
Using Colt's Mounting Plates (Most New Production Models)
    1. Remove the Rear Sight:
The process involves removing the existing adjustable target rear sight.
    2. Install the Plate:
A steel mounting plate, designed to fit the Python and Anaconda (2020 and newer models), is installed in place of the rear sight.
    3. Attach the Optic:
This plate is designed with a specific footprint for certain red dot sights, such as those with the Shield RMSc and Holosun 507k footprint.
    4. Reversibility:
The plates are designed to be reversible, allowing for the original rear sight to be reinstalled if desired.
