  • I have seen a few videos of owner that experience light strike issues, but these videos are several years old. I am wondering if charter has addressed this issue, and if there is a particular grain weight or ammo brand/type that the bulldog prefers?

  • Hi Richard and welcome. Charter has addressed the issue on recent models.250gr and up works fine in the Charter Arms Bulldogs. I prefer the 250gr through 360gr weights depending on use purpose. Cheers and stay safe!

  • They have since fixed the issue, as far as the ammo, it really depends on what you are wanting to do. I actually keep the 410 Winchester Defender in my 45 LC.

  • Sir Richard,
Charter Arms has made various improvements to their revolvers, including updates to firing pin design, metallurgy, and manufacturing processes. Many users report that newer models tend to be more reliable.
For .45 Colt in a small revolver like the Bulldog, lighter loads (around 200-250 grains) tend to be more reliable in terms of ignition, especially if you're experiencing light strikes.
    Richard, try the following brand/types:
Federal American Eagle or Federal Premium: Known for consistent ignition and reliable performance.
Winchester Western or USA Ready: Often have good ignition qualities.
Handloads: If you reload, using a load with a standard or slightly reduced powder charge and a reliable primer can improve ignition.
Hopefully the above info helps and hopefully you'll catch some good Labor Day sales! Please take care and stay safe Sir Richard 🙏

  • Good morning to you!! Reports show Charter Arms has repaired Bulldogs with light primer strikes for customers under their lifetime warranty. While the company's historical performance has varied, individual experiences and available repairs suggest the company addresses these issues when they arose. As for ammo each firearm is different and like different types. You'll have to try different types to see which weight and brand your particular firearm likes. Hope this helps. Have a good rest of your day.
