  • What’s the latest on short barrel rifles for sale? Is there a $200 tax stamp to be paid when purchasing one? If so, any idea if/when it will end?

  • Good evening to you!! Starting January 2026 the tax stamp goes away, but the forms, background check, pictures, finger prints are still required. I hope this helps. Have a good rest of your day.

  • It is important to note that while the tax is ending, the process for legally acquiring SBRs remains subject to federal regulation. Prospective buyers must still complete the required ATF Form 4, submit to a background check, and secure approval from the ATF prior to taking possession of the firearm.
    Mr. Doug Sir,
Following the passage of the Budget Reconciliation Act of 2025 (also known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill"), the $200 federal tax stamp for short-barrel rifles (SBRs) will be eliminated, effective January 1, 2026. This legislative change removes a financial barrier that was initially introduced by the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1934 and was not adjusted for inflation.
Hope the above information helps Sir Doug, please take care 🙏🏻

  • Hi Doug, Come Jan. 1, 2026, you can legally buy a suppressor, SBR or SBS without paying the $200 tax. But that doesn’t mean you can walk into a store and walk out with one like you would a sling or flashlight. These items are still classified under the NFA and still require all the NFA registration, including fingerprints and mug shots, as well as a background check and a 4473 form.
So while the cost is going down, the paperwork and wait times aren’t going away just yet.
Stay safe & have a great day!

  • Doug Sir,
Short-barrel rifles (SBRs) will NO LONGER require the $200 federal tax stamp starting January 1, 2026, following the passage of the Budget Reconciliation Act of 2025, also known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill". While the tax is ending, you will still need to complete the ATF Form 4 and pass a background check to legally purchase an SBRas of now. The elimination of the tax stamp takes effect on January 1, 2026. This change aims to make it easier for citizens to acquire these firearms and removes a barrier to ownership that was never adjusted for inflation since the original National Firearms Act of 1934.
Hope the above information helps Sir Doug, please take care and stay safe 🙏🏻
