  • Hi Fred and welcome. Unfortunately, they will not work in the Long Action AR-Platform cartridges. I would contact GLFA for any direction on their platform in 30-06. Cheers, stay safe and enjoy!

  • No, they won’t work in the LA AR platform. Maybe contact GLFA directly?

  • Yes, aftermarket buffers and springs exist for AR-10 rifles, but the .30-06 Springfield caliber is highly uncommon for the standard AR-10 platform and typically requires a specialized, proprietary system rather than generic parts.
    Standard AR-10 vs. .30-06 Systems
Standard AR-10s are typically chambered in .308 Winchester/7.62x51mm NATO or 6.5 Creedmoor. These calibers fit within the standard AR-10 magazine well and use a specific range of buffer weights (around 3.8 to 5.4 ounces) and spring lengths.
The .30-06 cartridge is longer than the .308. To accommodate this length, a manufacturer must design a proprietary upper and lower receiver with a longer magazine well, which means standard AR-10 parts (including the buffer and spring system) may not be compatible.
A company like Bear Creek Arsenal offers a complete .30-06 AR-style rifle called the Huntmaster, which uses modified AR-10 magazines and a unique receiver design to manage the longer cartridge and different recoil impulse.
    Aftermarket Component Availability
Standard AR-10 buffers and springs are widely available from various manufacturers and are often interchangeable between AR-10 and AR-15 buffer tubes (receiver extensions). However, finding specific aftermarket buffers and springs designed for the cycling dynamics and recoil of a proprietary .30-06 AR platform will be difficult.
Your best course of action is to contact the rifle's manufacturer directly

  • Yes, aftermarket buffers and springs specifically designed for the GLFA .30-06 AR-10 platform do exist, but options may be limited as some components for this specific long-action AR variant can be proprietary.
The Great Lakes Firearms and Ammunition (GLFA) rifle in .30-06 Springfield is an AR-10 style, semi-automatic rifle with a direct impingement operating system that uses a standard Hogue fixed rifle stock, which typically accommodates a rifle-length buffer system. The rifle uses a custom bolt carrier group and a specific buffer system to manage the powerful .30-06 cartridge in an AR platform.
    Available Options
Manufacturer-Specific: Noreen Firearms, known for their own long-action AR platform (BN36), offers a specific BN36 Carbine Conversion Buffer Kit (30-06) which includes a buffer, spring, buffer tube, and adapter for converting to a carbine setup. Given the rarity of .30-06 AR-style rifles, some users of GLFA models have looked to Noreen for parts, but direct compatibility is not guaranteed.
