Of the 2 I perfer the XD The FN 509 is a nice gun but it just does not feel right to me I suggest you see if a local range has them for ren so you can try or at least has them so you can handle them. I think that would help you decide. get the on that feels best to you and know that they are both Quality guns that should give you many years of service
