  • Hey Dwight, 7.62x39 and .308 are very different. The 7.62x39 being the common cartridge for the AK-47 and it's variants. Now the 7.62x51 (NATO) and the .308 are much closer. A firearm that is chambered for .308 can shoot a 7.62x51 or 7.62 NATO round, but not the other way around, so, you should not shoot a .308 out of a rifle only chambered for the 7.62x51 (NATO). It's more common for AR-15's to be chambered if .223 or 5.56 NATO, but there are other calibers. The AR-10 is the designation for an AR style rifle chambered in 308. An SKS is chambered in the 7.62x39, which is again, not compatible in the 7.62x51 or .308 rifles. It is always wise to check the barrel, chamber, and rim of the cartridges to confirm the ammunition you are using is correct. The firearm should be stamped with it's appropriate caliber. Hope that helps!

  • you are mixing up the 7,62x39 (ak47) with the 7.62x51 (nato m-1)the 7.62x51 can be fired in .308 chambered guns but not the other way around as the .308 round has higher pressures and would be unsafe in a 7.62x51 gun

  • No. These 2 rounds are not interchangeable. The 308 is a bigger/longer cartridge and twice the power of the 7.62x39. google.com/search?q=7.62x39+vs+308&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjuvY2YgZ3aAhXMdN8KHc0zCNoQ_AUICigB&biw=1280&bih=618#imgrc=wT8EnEagbKzurM:
