Could I customize this to make it have that original m16 look? Or would that not be a good idea? Too costly? Too much added weight?

Paul, the cost and added weight would probably make it best to start out with something that is already closer to the M16 look to begin with. Lightweight rifles are balanced for optimal performance with the weight reduction parts they come with.
