A good shotgun (Mossberg, Maverick 88, etc.) would be a better option. A pump shotgun has the international get out of the house sound. Most people know the sounds irregardless of any language barriers. Because it shoots a cone of multiple shot bad guys realize you do not have to be real accurate to hit something with it. Agila makes some nice 2 inch self defences loads for the shotgun. Hi-Point's are a firearm, some work others not so much. Soap box time; you NEED to practice with your firearm. That is the only way you are going to be familiar with it's operation when it's needed. The Agila shells are relatively low recoil you should be able to fire a few a couple times a year and be fine.

Hey David. Hi-points leave some to be desired in aesthetics in my opinion, but they work and they are cost-effective, and built like tanks. I actually have one of the carbines and have never had any issues with it and it is quite accurate. As long as you take care of it, it should take care of you.

Hi David, It's hard to pass up on the price. Hi -points are hit or miss there are mixed reviews on these. There's better out there just not at this price. Enjoy!
