I was thinking about using a rifle chambered for 44 special for hunting deer this year but is it enough for deer

Shaun, it will be sufficient but remember that 44 Special only chambered rifles are few and far between. A 44 Magnum Chambered rifle will allow you to shoot 44 Special as well so it's best to have the versatility.

75 yard or so it will be fine but like the other said a 44 mag is more common and can use 44 special rounds it will also giv eyou the ability to extend you range to about 125 yards with the 44 mag rounds 44 mag is also easier to find hunting style bullets for (unless you reload)
