I own a P320 X Compact with combo tritium/Fiber Optic sights. Basic sights are generally plain white dots, then comes phosphorescence sight that are basically white but glow for a period of time when exposed to light. From here you can step up to fiber optic sights that come in a variety of colors. FO sights need some level of light to be clearly visible. Next comes basic tritium night sights (NS) but are not very visible in day light. All NS’s has models that come in different colors, but a pale green is the most common color. Next you have NS with color rings painted (impregnated) around the tritium. These are much more visible in daylight with the benefit of tritium for night usage. The downside is some of the gun cleaning solvents will remove the painted ring (I’ve experienced this). The combo FO/NS in my opinion are the best overall (and most expensive) solution for day and night usage. So there is a thumbnail sketch (but not totally inclusive) of what is out there and basic pros and cons.
The Sig 320 can be purchased (or ordered) with either the High Contrast White Dots or Night sights. The best version is the fiber optic / night sight. It works well in both day and night. Any of them can be changed out by your neighborhood gunsmith or you can do it if you're handy and have the tools. I have three 320s (sub, compact and X5) and I love them all!
Rich, This firearm has 3-dot white dot sights. You can upgrade sights to illuminated or night sights for $50 to $100.
Rich, contrast sights are different than night sights. For daylight shooting I don't perceive any difference when shooting these guns as far as the sights are concerned. At low/no light is when night sights have the advantage. It will be easy to upgrade to night sights later.
