  • I am a newbie gun owner and have never purchased pistols online. Two months ago I purchased a Walther PK380 *angel blue" and a Walther 22. They arrived very oily like silicone had been rubbed on them. I received the Walther PK380 in pink today and it is very sticky/gummy and looks like it has been sitting for years somewhere on a shelf? The magazine release feels different as well. Is that normal? The listings said Factory New on all of them so not sure why this one looks and feels different?

  • Hi Daryn - Many times, manufacturers will apply a protective coating to their firearms in order to prevent rusting or corrosion during shipping and while sitting in a warehouse somewhere awaiting sale. It is, intentionally, "sticky" so it will remain on the surface for protection. So, this is 'normal'. The first thing one needs to do upon receiving a new firearm is to review the manual, and disassemble and thoroughly clean it, using a solvent (Hoppes # 9) or CLP type product. Then re-oil it using a good grade of oil (I use Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil in 5W20 or 0W10) or whatever else one might prefer. Reassemble the firearm, , then give it a light coating of oil on the exterior portions to prevent rust or corrosion. This should be done prior to shooting it the first time. The manufacturers have to use some sort of protection to ensure the firearm does not rust or corrode prior to the buyer taking possession. This is pretty universal, and everyone goes through it. Some manufacturers just use more product than others. It's a good way to get familiar with your new firearm, and a great reason to thoroughly read the manual.

  • Typically most if not all firearms come with rust preventative since they may sit for a while in a box which is not moisture proof so you want to make sure as soon as you get a new firearm that you give it a good clean and put some gun oil on it and you should be good to go. if you are having any trouble with the gun firing at this point you would have to contact the manufacturer and they would be able to help you as Buds or any dealer would only refer to the manufacturer since the gun is already sold. Good luck!

  • Daryn, this is usually true for "New" old stock firearms. I would ask Buds Customer Service directly to see what they have to say at 1-859-368-0371 9am-9pm EST Mon-Fri. or use the Blue Chat now button at the bottom right corner 9am to 9pm Mon-Sat and 11am - 7pm Sun (7 days a week).
