BudsGunShop.com - This gun is different

I am a newbie gun owner and have never purchased pistols online. Two months ago I purchased a Walther PK380 *angel blue" and a Walther 22. They arrived very oily like silicone had been rubbed on them. I received the Walther PK380 in pink today and it is very sticky/gummy and looks like it has been sitting for years somewhere on a shelf? The magazine release feels different as well. Is that normal? The listings said Factory New on all of them so not sure why this one looks and feels different?

Hi Daryn - Many times, manufacturers will apply a protective coating to their firearms in order to prevent rusting or corrosion during shipping and while sitting in a warehouse somewhere awaiting sale. It is, intentionally, "sticky" so it will remain on the surface for protection. So, this is 'normal'. The first thing one needs to do upon receiving a new firearm is to review the manual, and disassemble and thoroughly clean it, using a solvent (Hoppes # 9) or CLP type product. Then re-oil it using a good grade of oil (I use Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil in 5W20 or 0W10) or whatever else one might prefer. Reassemble the firearm, , then give it a light coating of oil on the exterior portions to prevent rust or corrosion. This should be done prior to shooting it the first time. The manufacturers have to use some sort of protection to ensure the firearm does not rust or corrode prior to the buyer taking possession. This is pretty universal, and everyone goes through it. Some manufacturers just use more product than others. It's a good way to get familiar with your new firearm, and a great reason to thoroughly read the manual.
