  • I have heard that on some S&W revolvers (M66) the Forcing Cone has a tendency to crack. Is that an issue that I should be concerned about in the S&W M686?

  • Fortunately, Gary, the present day S&W revolvers take advantage of the more recent (and stronger) steel to manufacture their pistols. The old days of cracks in the forcing cones are basically gone, and just history. The modern revolvers experience very few problems associated with material failure. I don;t think you have anything to be concerned about with the M686.

  • that issue was in some of the early production guns the current models have been updated and do not have a issue

  • Gary, not in the recent manufacture models. Smith and Wesson is a "Stand Up Company" and the reports from forcing cone issues were from earlier M686's.
