I called Springfield armory to ask about the safety on the EliteRO.They told me it only has a ambedextrious thumb safety. I asked the community earlier today's the same question and all the responses said that it had both beavertail grip safety and ambedextrious thumb safety. Ok so who is correct?

Richard - Don't know who you talked to, but we're talking about a 1911 - and all 1911s have a beavertail type grip safety, and a thumb safety (some have ambidextrous thumb safeties). I've been shooting and working on 1911s for over 40 years. Have never seen one without the grip and thumb safeties. Springfield also uses a light firing pin and heavier firing pin spring to prevent the gun from firing should it be dropped muzzle first. I am sorry you reached a Springfield agent who knows nothing about their product - this is highly unusual for Springfield who has always had top-notch customer service. But you obviously found that rare person who isn't properly trained. The Range Officer 1911 has two user-activated safeties, and one built in passive safety. Period.
