Jerek, personally have not used the layaway system before but if you have concerns about paying/being billed correct amounts you should talk to Buds' customer service directly as those of us answering questions don't work for Buds'. I usually get questions answered quickly with the blue chat now button in the bottom right corner of the screen and you can also call at (859) 368-0371
