  • Wondering if the laws in NC are a barrel under 18" or overall length of 26" is prohibited, do I need a NFA permit to legally own one? Or are pistol grips not considered shotguns. Seems to be some gray are here. Just want to now the regulations before I purchase anything online and have it shipped.

  • I assume that you are asking about the shockwave type firearms. Shotgun laws do not apply as they are not shotguns They are 100% legal in NC (I live in Camden NC ) As part of the legal definition, a “shotgun” must be made to be fired from the shoulder. Since Mossberg fits a new receiver with a pistol grip at the factory, the Shockwave falls under the definitions in the Gun Control Act of 1968, which calls it a “Pistol Grip Only Firearm.” That’s why the Shockwave doesn’t fall under the National Firearms Act rules and doesn’t require a tax stamp.

  • Connor, you will have no issue in NC unless you are planning to but a short barrel shotgun with a shoulder stock. Shockwaves, TAC-14's are legal as are pistol grip shotguns. Cheers and stay safe!
