first time gun buyer. Desire something for home protection (wife and myself). Have used SW at range. What do you think of the SW M&P9 SHIELD 7+1/8 9MM for our purposes?

yes the shield will be good for your purpose It is one of the guns I carry when I don't want to carry my larger 1911
