Can I tell the date of manufacture by the serial number? I noticed you can choose a serial number when ordering, just curious as to why?

Matt,it is a recently added feature for some firearms. Some people that buy multiple firearms like to have consecutive or custom picked serial numbers. The manufacturer can tell you the date of manufacture by calling them up with the serial number.
