BudsGunShop.com - Proper function testing at FFL?

Will be picking up my first handgun at a local FFL. All the information on this website says that I should inspect the firearm before accepting transfer. What's the proper way to inspect the gun when I go to pick it up? What types of defects should I be looking for? Any other advice for this first time handgun (almost) owner?

Kevin, fit/finish for dings or scratches, slide lock, magazine release. Dry fire for firing pin click release, rack the slide while trigger is held back and check for proper trigger reset. Cheers and stay safe!
